How did you get here?

If you are reading this right now, you are most likely someone who is interested in learning, right? I mean, why else would you click on a blog post with this title.

So I am gonna make this short & sweet and to the point.

The way you ‘utilize’ language will determine your future. When you learn how to control your language patterns…you will begin to notice how much more successful you will be.

Why?

Because ‘words’ are one of the most powerful things in the universe. Words give power to the person who is using them correctly. Words give man or woman the power to change the world, literally!

But that’s a topic for another post…

For right now, you want to know the skinny on positive & negative language. It can be the difference between success & failure in everything you do in life, not just marketing or business but with your children, spouse, co-workers, partners or whatever other type of human to human interactions you have.

But before we get into the positive & negative language and how it affects your ability to communicate effectively, we need to talk about the conscious and the subconscious mind.

We spend 90% of our time in the subconscious mind!

Unless you are someone who has a job that requires you to analyze numbers & figures all day, you and I spend about 90% of our time being ruled by our subconscious mind.

So what about the other 10% of the time, you ask? That time is spent in your conscious mind or critical factor. So let’s take a closer look at how these two minds work together…

And how you can control more situations by understanding this.

Think of your ‘critical factor’ as a security guard. He is guarding the subconscious mind. Why? BECAUSE…anything that gets past him…goes directly into the subconscious mind and is taken as ‘truth’.

Which means YOU and ME accept that information as ‘real’ & ‘legitimate’ and it becomes a part of who we are. It effects our mindset, our belief systems and our core values. Which all effect the outcomes in our lives, don’t they?

Why do you cry over a movie or a book?

Because it’s an emotional ‘story’, right? Our minds are programmed since the beginning of speaking to settle right in for a good story. But what happens when you do settle in for that story?

Basically, your critical factor or your minds ‘security guard’ goes to sleep. And whatever information comes passed it while it’s sleeping – is taken as ‘real’.

And that’s why you will cry, even though…

…you know it’s not real! You know those are actors. Or you know those characters in the book are fictitious. But you are emotional because your subconscious mind is telling you that…this is emotional & real

That’s why, people who analyze movies (using their ‘critical factor’) don’t get as emotional as people who just let it all flow into the brain. Those people are thinking about how the special effects were made or how good of a job the actor is doing.

I’m guilty of that from time to time…

I always wanted to entertain others through acting. Not sure why I never pursued it but it was always something that was on my mind. There’s something about making situations seem believable that’s fun & interesting to me.

Anyway. I digress.

Here is an example of ‘Positive vs. Negative’ Language.

Let’s say you have a child (or spouse) who is constantly slamming the refrigerator door. And you keep telling him or her not to slam the fridge. You say “Don’t SLAM the fridge! Don’t SLAM the fridge! Don’t SLAM the fridge!

And after saying this so many times, what do they do. They SLAM the fridge, right? Of course. Did a light bulb just go off in your head? I hope so. Because this is usually the point where most people get it.

The Sub-conscious mind does not understand NEGATIVES!

It only takes in the part after the negative word. So when you say ‘Don’t SLAM the fridge!” the only thing the other person hears is ‘SLAM the fridge!” and that is what gets tucked away in their brains.

So what should you say instead? You may have already come up with a much more POSITIVE way to get your point across AND most importantly, get compliance from the person you are communicating with.

So here’s what you could say to get better faster results…

‘Close the fridge gently.’

How about that? Instead of telling the person what you DON’T want them to do. You can now tell them what you DO want them to do and they will do it. Does that make sense? It sure does because it works.

I have been using language pattern techniques (along with a bunch of reverse psychology) on my kids for years! Like when I convinced them at the age of 2 that the best time of the day was…‘BEDTIME’!

They would literally sprint to their beds at 7pm…

We’d say, ‘what’s the best time of the day?’ and they’d say ‘BEDTIME!’. It was great! And we never had a fight at bedtime ever. It was easy as pie and it works like a charm if you have little ones. Just a lil parenting advice for ya.

We convinced them that the best time of the entire day was bedtime. How did we sell it to them? We basically explained that when you go to sleep, you start recharging your internal batteries. Which means you will be ready for a whole day of play the next day.

LOL! So funny, right? But it worked like a charm…

If you do decide to try it, please leave a comment below to let me know how it goes. I can’t wait for responses. Either way, if you are still reading, leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts on the use of positive & negative language.

Oh before I forget, here’s the tip for Golfers!

When I was 11, my next door neighbor introduced me to the game of golf. I had no clubs. I knew nothing about the game. But like anything in life, I was excited to try it.

He let me use his grandmothers clubs. They were a set of Alice Bauer’s! Hahaha! Yup. Woman’s clubs. And they were old as dirt. The grips were soooo old that they were disintegrating. LMAO!

But they worked and they made me a better golfer…

Why? Because they were ‘blades’ and if you are taking time to read this stupid story then you know blades are ridiculously hard to hit. In fact, I spent the first year of my golfing career getting stingy fingers. It was brutal.

If you don’t hit a blade right in the sweet spot, it sends a still up your arm pretty much. So it forced me to hit that sweet spot. And I’m proud to say that I have been down as low as a 1 for my GHIN.

Not bragging but it took a lot of work to get there so I am proud!

Right now, I’d have trouble breaking 80 because golf has taken a backseat to my work and my family. If you don’t practice your putting, you’ll never break 80. Bottom line!

So here’s the tip!

Anytime you are facing a drive, an approach, a putt, a chip or a flop shot…you must think in the positive and not the negative. Stay in the positive and out of the negative. Notice I didn’t say, “Don’t think in the negative!”.

Because then your subconscious mind picks up ‘think in the negative’, so I said stay in the positive and out of the negative. Make sense.

Here’s an example…

Many times a golfer will have an approach shot that requires the clearing of a big water hazard. And in his mind, he’s thinking “Don’t hit it in the water!”

What does he do? He hits it in the water. Why because he told himself to hit it in the water. In fact, it was really an awesome shot if you think about it.

It went right where he told it to go!

So if he said, “Land on the green!”, he is not introducing that negative talk and the subconscious mind goes to work giving him the result he asked for, right?

Try it out on the course! You’ll love the results because it works great. Here are a few more things to say to yourself on the golf course from tee to green to cup.

Land it in the fairway!

Get it close to the pin!

Chip it close to (or in) the hole!

Roll it in the hole!

Those words will put you in the right mindset and you will see better results right away, guaranteed or your money back. LOL! But seriously, use the positive language and perspective over the negative and you will be glad you do it.

After all…anything is better than telling yourself to do the very thing you don’t want to do, isn’t it?

Hope you enjoyed the post!

Please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts and what you took away from this long ass blog post. So much for short and sweet and to the point! :-)

Tips on Making a Short Sales Video for Your Business

If you’re looking to make a sales video for your business, you should find great value in this post. This blog post is a bit unconventional but, then again, so am I. Let me explain…

So, I have a client in San Diego who is working on making a short sales video for his home care business. He asked if I had some insight to help make the video as successful as possible and, of course, I sat down to provide the insight he was looking for.

Below, you’ll find the exact email I sent to my client which covers, not only, tips for shooting the video but also tips for making the video as impactful as possible. There’s always psychology that goes into your marketing and making videos is no different.

So here is the email in its entirety…

**********START OF EMAIL**********

Hi Sterling,

This is a somewhat lengthy email and I want to just share with you my perspective for the videos.

What style of video are you creating?

I assume one of them will be a talking head video? Meaning you speaking to the camera directly.

I would also recommend making an interview style video as well. Shoot it from about a 25 degree angle and you answer the questions that someone asks you.

You should have a real person sit there and ask you the questions. We don’t have to show that person at all in fact we can flash the actual question on the screen and then cut to you answering it. Or if you have someone who can do a good interview, something you would see on TV, that works well too.

This person will want to make sure they sell the interview. Meaning, it really has a good feel and engages the audience. Not many people can pull it off well so if you don’t have someone, just flashing the questions will look nice too.

If you have 2 cameras, you can set one up from the other side as well maybe a slightly different angle. That always makes for a nice effect when you cut to different angles between questions.

If you do go the 2 camera route, be sure to clap a few times loudly after you start the cameras up. This will allow us to match up the claps to keep the videos synced up. Makes it much easier to edit unless you have someone to do the editing. If not, we’ll do it for you at no additional cost.

I would suggest, you choose a nice scenery to shoot either indoors or out. A nice calm peaceful serene setting will be nice for your audience. Not sure what ya working with but be as creative as possible. I mean near a pond with ducks floating by is what I imagine. Maybe a nice little bridge going over the pond in the background. A true Folgers moment. LOL!!!

Anyway.

If you shoot outside, use a lavaliere mic so the audio will be crisp. Actually either way, indoors or out, be sure to use a lavaliere mic. Much better audio quality than what the camera will pick up.

So now let’s talk about what you should say when you film.

Interview Style Video

Have your interviewer ask you 10 questions. Those 10 questions should really be the 10 biggest objections that your audience could have to doing business with you.

Here are the major reasons people won’t do business with you or at least until you answer these for them:

“You don’t understand my problem”
“How do I know you’re qualified?”
“I don’t believe you”
“I don’t need it right now”
“It won’t work for me”
“What happens if I don’t like it?”
“I can’t afford it”

Be mindful of those 7 things right there when you write the 10 question AND when you write your script for the talking head video.

Also, before I forget, be sure to read your script out loud many times as you edit so you can make it sound like YOU!

You want to sound like you are just taking to them in your talking head video and when we cover the script writing process in a minute this will make more sense to you.

Let me be clear,

I would suggest doing the interview as a real interview meaning ‘unscripted’. It’s ok to have ideas in your mind of how you are going to answer the questions but the answers should just flow out of you naturally.

When you do the talking head video, you should have a script and a TelePrompTer. There are free ones online.

If you don’t have a TelePrompTer setup, meaning with the camera behind the glass and the prompter showing you what to say in the reflection of the glass, you can just:

Use your laptop. Position the camera just above the screen. And stand at a decent distance so the audience won’t be able to see that you are reading.

Not too far back but not so close either. We can always zoom in and out in the editing process. Or you can do it with the cameras when you record it. Either way.

Also in the talking head video, you can do it with just a white background if you’d like. If so, you can stand to the side a bit if you want to show anything on the screen as you are taking.

It could be an image of what you are taking about. It could be another video playing something. It’s up to you. Just plan ahead for it, that’s all.

Now for the FUN part…THE SCRIPT!

When you are writing your script you definitely want to reference those 7 things I listed above to hit all the nails on the head. This will give you a much better chance at converting that viewer to an action. Brochure request, lead form, telephone call. Instant sale! Whatever.

In addition, follow this process below:

#1. Address the Problem
#2. Agitate the Problem
#3. Provide the Solution
#4. Explain ‘How It Works”
#5. Deliver a Strong Call to Action

You should be able to achieve this within a 60 to 90 second script delivered at a natural pace.

#1. How to Address the Problem

Here are a few persuasive language patterns you can use to get your audiences attention right away.

Remember, words are the most powerful thing…

If used correctly, you can move mountains. If used incorrectly you’ll lose your audiences attention and lower your conversion rate.

So start out by addressing the problem…

“If you are here on this page, and you are watching this video right now…”

So what does that accomplish?

That is what is called ‘pacing’ in the world of hypnosis. You are stating two ‘true’ facts that the ‘critical’ mind can agree with right away. It puts the critical mind at ease so what you say next will have a better chance to hit the sub-conscious mind and stick.

This next part of the statement should be their problem…

“you or your loved ones need professional in home care for a short or long term condition.”.

Or something to that effect.

Really hit your ‘target audience’ with this opening statement. Be specific to your ideal clients situation so anyone who doesn’t fit the mold will just leave the video. Gotta weed em out!

#2. How to Agitate the Problem

Begin to elaborate, quickly, on all the major ‘pains in the ass’ for this person as it relates the larger problem.

This is not only where you agitate the shit out of your audience, but you also form a stronger bond with them. Why?

Because when they know right away that you truly understand what they are going through, they will feel more connected to you and your company and will be more likely to do business with you.

It implies that you have worked with so many people in their situation and you understand it well. How else could you elaborate on their exact pain if you haven’t been through it with others many times over?

That’s how you get away with agitating them! They see it as a ‘connection’ to you and you’re really just being a lil shit weasel and pushing their buttons. In a nice way, of course.

When you are agitating the problem, use words like…

Notice
Realize

For example…

“You may begin to notice that caring for someone on a full or part time basis is hard work.”

“Maybe you feel guilty because you want to provide the care but it’s just a lot to bear.”

“You may begin to realize, your loved one will not get the proper care they need from you or other members of your family.”

“And you can’t imagine them in anything but a comfortable environment around the clock.”

“If you’re like most of our clients, you realize it’s time to seek professional assistance and you’re concerned with hiring the wrong company.”

“And rightfully so. There are many home care providers that are only in it for the money.”

This implies that you aren’t in it for the money.

“And many of them could care less about providing comfortable care.”

“So how do you get the professional help you need?

#3. Here’s the solution

“You hire a caring and loving company who are passionate about caring for people. San Diego Home Caregivers, of course”. (said with a boyish trustworthy grin)

#4. Here’s How it Works

“So, here’s how we provide our clients with the best possible home care service available in San Diego.”

OR

If you had this accolade…

“So here’s why we were rated San Diego’s Best In Home Care Provider by JD Powers and Associates for 10 years in a row.”.

Okay, so this is where you need to list the things that make you GREAT!

Mention the services you provide that most others don’t. Really, your USP. Your Unique Selling Proposition. The thing that makes you stand out from all your competitors.

#5. Deliver a Strong Call to Action

Now it’s time to tell your audience what to do. So many people finish weak when you really must finish strong to convert at a high level.

BE SPECIFIC!

Seriously, be as specific as possible. Tell them EXACTLY what you want them to do. For instance, the late Gary Halbert said it something like this…

“Get up out of your seat right now, walk over to the phone, pick up the telephone receiver and press the buttons you see on the screen right now.”

Obviously, that’s not exactly how he said it and you wouldn’t be so blatant but you get the picture.

Here’s another example…

“Click the yellow button to the right that says, ‘Get a Free Consultation’ now. You’ll enter your name, email and telephone number and a notice will be sent to us right away. One of our reps will call you back within 30 minutes guaranteed so we can understand your needs.”

Always tell people exactly what is going to happen when they take action. We, meaning us humans, don’t like the ‘unknown’ very much. So make sure you include the details to set their mind at ease.

WOW! That could be the longest email I’ve ever sent to a client. I may have to post it to my blog. Some good info here for other business owners.

Anyway, I hope this helps make the process more successful and let me know if you have any questions.

If I think of anything I left out, I’ll let you know. LOL!

I wouldn’t expect you to use the sample script I laid out but I wanted to explain the process so you can make the connections for your services.

I’ll talk to you this week.

Thanks Sterling.

**********END OF EMAIL**********

So, I hope that gives you some insight into the process of scripting and creating a sales video for your business. If so, please share your comments below and if you have some insight that I didn’t mention in this email to my client, feel free to share with us!

“How to Write a High Converting Video Marketing Squeeze Page Script in Less than 10 minutes!”

When you follow the 9 step video marketing script writing formula, you’ll get your message across effectively to engage your audience and get them to take action quickly.

What I’m going to teach you right now is something I learned from a brilliant online marketer named Brendon Burchard, the founder of Experts Academy.

This 9 step formula allows you to take YOUR message, which you already know well and deliver to your audience in a very powerful way to increase your conversions.

Before we get into that…

I wanna share what prompted me to write this blog post. This post is already going to be a bit lengthy so I’ll keep it quick for ya.

A friend of mine is an expert in the automobile industry. He has been buying and selling cars for almost 30 years and he has actually ran some of the largest dealerships in Massachusetts.

You could say he is a ‘foremost authority’ on the new and used car industry and has the knowledge and experience to get his customers a fantastic deal on a vehicle.

So, I was checking out his website and I ran across his home page video which I was impressed with immediately. Anyone who takes the initiative to make a video has my vote.

But the first thing I noticed…

His video is over 5 minutes long, which is a bit longer than you want your squeeze page video to be and his message could be organized better to hold the audience’s attention.

As I listened to him speak, the idea for this blog post popped into my head…

Because it hit me that this guy is a true expert in his field AND…

Most importantly, he has a unique selling proposition that differentiates him from most others in his industry.

The actual message he delivered was sprinkled with many of the key aspects of a high converting squeeze page video because he’s a natural persuader but…

He missed some key elements…

The good news is…the elements he missed can be implemented and he will get more engagement from his visitors and convert more of them to leads and paying customers.

Before we look at what could be better, Let’s look at what Bob did right!

He made a video! Most people are too scared to…

He pointed out the pain of traditional car buying

He explained his experience in the industry

He explained how he makes their life better

He did have a call to action which is good

The video was actually really good overall!

So what could be better…?

His message could be organized better

It was missing a few key ingredients

It was a couple minutes too long

It had a weak call to action

If you’ve got your visitors attention and they are watching a video on your site you MUST have a call to action to get them to do something on your site.

So how can my friend spend 10 minutes and write a higher converting squeeze page video that will engage more visitors and get them to take action?

Follow the 9 Step Video Squeeze Page Script

As I go through this I am going to give my advice on how each step applies to my friends business and see how well it flows at the end.

Maybe he’ll even go back and re-record his video and we can compare the two side by side to see the major differences. That would be cool!

Here’s the 9 Step Script Writing Blueprint, then we’ll go over each step in detail:

Step 1: Here’s who I am and here’s what I do that can help you!

Step 2: Have you ever had any of these challenges?

Step 3: Me too! Here’s my story of struggle.

Step 4: Here’s how I found the solution.

Step 5: Here are the results that I’ve gotten and helped other gets.

Step 6: Here’s what different between the old world and the new world.

Step 7: Here’s the solution! The process, system or framework…

Step 8: Here’s the most common mistakes people make

Step 9: Here’s what you should do right now!

So that’s the 9 step script writing blueprint for high converting video marketing squeeze pages.

As you were reading that, you probably started to realize how you can use this 9 step formula and apply it to your own business, right?

Let’s break it down…

I’m going to use my friends business and his unique selling proposition as an example to walk you through how the 9 step formula works.

I’m not saying this script I am about to write is going to be perfect for his business. You all know your businesses better than I do, but if you apply this script your message will pack more punch.

<START OF SCRIPT>

[Step 1: Here's who I am and here's what I do that can help you!]

Hi, my name is Bob and I’m an automobile broker. I help people just like you who are looking to cut through all the hassle of the typical car buying experience and get a reliable, quality used car at a great price.

[Step 2: Have you ever had any of these challenges?]

If you’re like most car buyers, you’ve probably been through the scharades of a typical car buying experience in the past.

You visit multiple dealerships and spend countless hours going back and forth with salespeople and managers.

You encounter inexperienced salespeople who know very little about the products they sell or how to get you the best financing.

You end up having to tell your credit story to multiple people over and over again while sharing your sensitive information with who knows who.

[Step 3: Me too! Here's my story of struggle.]

I know exactly where you are coming from because I have been in the automotive business for almost 30 years and have seen every situation imaginable.

I’ve sold cars, managed sales teams and ran some of the largest dealerships in Massachusetts and I was constantly bothered by the lack of transparency in the car business.

I always felt there should be a better way for you to buy a high quality used vehicle at a great price without all the hassle and frustration.

[Step 4: Here's how I found the solution.]

Then one day it hit me! I came up with an idea to streamline the car buying process to help you avoid the frustration and unease that comes along with the typical car buying nightmare.

I came up with a simple system for my customers to help them get the exact car they want quickly, at the price they want to pay.

[Step 5: Here are the results that I've gotten and helped other gets.]

Over the past few years, I’ve helped hundreds of people just like you, buy the car they want at the price they want to pay.

I’ve helped them avoid the frustration of bouncing around from dealership to dealership, credit pull after credit pull and one annoying sales person after another.

I’ve helped my customers save tens of thousands of dollars by using my system to find and buy the used vehicle they want without the traditional headaches of buying a car.

[Step 6: Here's what different between the old world and the new world.]

The bottom line is this…the process of buying a car or truck has changed dramatically since the explosion of mainstream internet and smart phone use.

You don’t have to go through the rigamarole that you once had to, to get you and your family a great deal on a used car or truck.

When you leverage the power of the internet, like my system does, you can get the right car at the price, everytime.

[Step 7: Here's the solution! The process, system or framework...]

So here’s how it works. You tell me the exact vehicles you have in mind and my system goes to work for you to locate your vehicle choices.

Once we’ve located the vehicles that you’re interested in, we’ll narrow down the selections and we’ll acquire that vehicle for you at the lowest price.

In this day and age, you can leverage the power of technology to save money and reduce the time and headache involved with buying a car or truck.

[Step 8: Here's the most common mistakes people make!]

Have you ever made some of these common mistakes…?

You go into a dealerships blindly to find a new car without the knowledge needed to get yourself the best deal.

Maybe you’re concerned about your credit and financing and start feeling pressured to take whatever deal you can get…

Which means, you end up settling for a vehicle that you don’t really want because you were forced into it by the dealership so they could make a higher profit.

You may have even found yourself upside down in your car, owing more than it’s actually worth shortly after you bought it.

And you end up carrying that value deficit around with you for a long time causing your payments to be higher.

But the good news is, it doesn’t have to be like that any more!

[Step 9: Here's what you should do right now!]

Here’s what you should do right now.

Enter your name and email to the right and get access to a special 12 page report, that explains my unique car buying system and how it will save you time, money and frustration.

You’ll also discover the 7 biggest mistakes most people make when they buy a new car that ends up costing them BIG TIME!

So enter your name and email address to the right, get free instant access to the report and I’ll see you on the inside!

<END OF SCRIPT>

So there you have it…

I broke that script down in less than 10 minutes, just using the information that I got from Bob’s video AND…

That script is just over 3 minutes long which is perfect to hold Bob’s visitors attention, get them interested in what he has to offer and get them to take action on his site.

Test, test, test…

The only true way to see how effective a squeeze page video is, is to test out multiple versions. Drive 100 visitors to your 1st video and see how many opt-in for your report.

Then drive another 100 visitors to a second video and see how many opt-in for the report from that group.

Here’s another tip: Get the JW Player…it’s FREE!

Use the JW Player to embed this squeeze page video instead of YouTube. You’ll have many advantages to doing so.

You can track the views and see exactly where you are losing your audience so you can tweak it and test a new one. You can customize the playback, not show the length of the video or restrict the ability to rewind or fast forward.

Plus, many will leave your site…

When you put the YouTube video on your site, YouTube shows nine related videos at the end of your video. This gives your viewer another place to go which isn’t good for conversion rates.

It could even be one of your competitors videos showing up after your video plays!

Use a FREE Teleprompter

Once you’ve written your script, just go into Google and type in ‘free teleprompter’ and you’ll get a few good ones. You just paste in your script, set your camera up just above your computer screen and deliver with authority.

You will want to run it a few times out loud to get the speed right. You’ll also realize parts of your script that can be reworded to sound more natural. Spend the time on the details because your video will be online for a long time.

So let’s recap…

Here are the main takeaways from this blog post:

Use the 9 Step Formula to write a great video squeeze page script that gets your prospects attention and moves them toward some action.

Have a strong call to action…Give something valuable to your visitor and measure your conversion rates.

Use JW Player instead of YouTube for this video to control playback and stop your visitor from leaving your site and going to a competitors video.

Use a FREE teleprompter service online to deliver your script and practice delivering it until it sounds like you are just talking naturally to a friend.

And smile, smile and more smiles! It’s an absolute must or you’ll look scary…

I hope you found this post helpful!

If so, please share it everywhere which will really help me spread my message to the world. And together, we can empower small to medium sized businesses to take control of and grow their businesses online. “Thank you!”

Here’s a link to Bob’s website if you are interested in watching his video or buying a car!

Hi again! It’s Keith Carpenter with KCMG Marketing. I received a question from one of my subscribers the other day about Google Analytics.

Amanda from Cambridge, Massachusetts asks…

“Is there a way I can stop the visits that I make to my website from registering on my Google Analytics?”

That is a great question Amamda and the answer is Yes you can AND…you should block your visits and exclude your IP address from registering on your Google Analytics.

I decided to not only answer the question but I’m also going to show you how to do it right now in a quick video I made.

This is something that most business owners either don’t think about OR they don’t think it really matters that much overall BUT…

I’m here to let you know…it matters A LOT! In fact, when you or your employees visit your website, it throws your analytic information way off. And there’s no point in measuring incorrect information, right?

So before I show you how to filter out your visits from your Google Analytics stats, let’s look at why it’s important to do so.

Let’s say you go to your website to check something quickly and leave within 10 seconds. Your analytic software not only registers that visit as just a 10 second visit, it also factors into your bounce rate and makes it look like your website isn’t giving your visitors what they want.

FYI: Your bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who leave your site without visiting any other pages.

Now, how often do you visit your website?

Multiply all the visits you make to your website throughout the course of a month and even a year. That’s a lot of inaccurate data being thrown into the mix.

Or maybe you’ve done this before…

You go to your site and start looking at a bunch of pages. You’re just checking stuff out or maybe you’re admiring it a lil.

When you analyze your data you’re going to get the impression that your audience is looking at more pages on your site than they really are.

Here’s another example…

Have you ever went to your site and left the page open on your computer for a long period of time? Maybe you even got up and walked away for awhile

This makes it look like your audience is staying on your site longer than they really are. And it gives you a false sense of how engaged your audience really is.

The bottom line is this…

Accuracy really matters when measuring!

So in this blog post…

You’re going to learn how to filter out your IP address in Google Analytics so the visits you make to your site won’t register and the information you get back from Google will be much more accurate.

Step 1: Log into your Google Analytics account. You should land automatically on the Analytics settings page. To be sure you can click on the Analytics Settings link right under the logo.

Step 2: Then you want to click on Filter Manager in the bottom right.

Step 3: Next click on the Add Filter button in the upper righthand corner

And now you can define what you want to filter out…

For this example were going to filter out your IP address. You can also filter out traffic for specific domains or subdirectories as well…but for right now, let’s focus on filtering your IP address.

Step 4: Give your filter a name.

Step 5: Then choose ‘Exclude’ from the 1st drop down menu.

Step 6: Then you’re going to select ’Traffic from the IP addresses’ from the second dropdown.

Step 7: And from the third dropdown you want to choose ‘That are equal to’.

Step 8: And finally you can type your IP Address into the boxes provided.

Step 9: Once you’ve added your IP address choose the website profile that you want and click ‘Add’ and your website profile will get selected and pushed over to the right

Step 10: Then click save changes and you’re done!

That’s it! The visits you make to your website from that IP address will no longer register in your Google Analytic Software

Now, if you don’t know what your IP address is, no worries…

Just open up your web browser and go to http://www.whatismyip.com and it will show your IP Address right on the screen.

As you can see, it’s crazy simple to filter out your visits to your website so you can improve the accuracy of your website analysis and get data you can rely on to improve your site.

If you’re using video marketing to market your business online, you’ve probably used YouTube at some point to upload and share a video you made BUT…

Did you optimize that video inside your YouTube Channel so you can get more viewers, more subscribers and more leads funneling into your business?

Here are 3 tips to get more views from your video marketing on YouTube:

Optimize the Title of the Video

Write a Keyword Optimized Description

Choose the Right Keyword Tags

It’s absolutely mind blowing how many people don’t take the time to optimize the video to get more views. I even see videos with the .mov extension left in the title.

I’m pretty sure you’re not looking for people searching for .mov…

So, let’s first start with the Title of your video. If you want more views, you have to choose a title that has the right keywords in it AND…entices your viewer to watch your video.

So here’s how to write a great title for your video to get more views…

First, you need to make sure you have keywords in your title that are actually being searched for on YouTube. You can check out my post on How to Do Sneaky Keyword Research for More Views on YouTube to learn how to get your keywords right.

Second, you must craft your title as you would a headline for an ad because IT IS! It’s the headline to your show and you want people to watch so they can buy what you offer.

As a friendly reminder…include these 3 main ingredients in your headlines:

Self Interest

News

Curiosity

And here’s a bonus…

Quick & Easy

Once you’ve written your Title/Headline, it’s time to write the Description…

Your description is a very powerful aspect of your video marketing strategy on YouTube and when crafted correctly, it can provide you with many benefits such as:

More clicks to your website

Telephone calls to your business

Subscribers to your channel

Better local search optimization

And most importantly…

Get your videos to rank higher on YouTube

So here are the key elements of a great video description:

Contains a clickable link to your website in the very first line of text

Contains your full business name and address at the very end

Provides information about the video to entice the viewer to watch

And of course…

Contains the proper keywords that are being searched for the most on YouTube.

Now that your description is optimized it’s time to enter your keyword Tags…

Just like in the Title and the Description, we must add keyword tags to let YouTube know what your video is about.

You should use the keywords from the Title and Description along with any other company identifying or location based keywords.

So there you have the 3 secrets to getting more YouTube views…

Optimize the Title of the Video

Write a Keyword Optimized Description

Choose the Right Keyword Tags

Do these 3 things on every video you upload and you’ll enjoy more views, more exposure and (if your marketing message is good) more money.
